Talking to Roy: the Florida Radio Guy

headphonesymbol50… Chatting with Roy Lowey

One of a kind

For a number of years I had the privilege of working with Roy Lowey: pilot, retired airline executive, owner-operator of his own airlines, radio host (WTMY Sarasota, Sunday Travel Radio, grandpa, man-for-all-seasons, and one of the funniest and most down-to-earth people I have ever known — and travelled with.

I met Roy when a small group of us were on one of the most unusual and “content-rich” media trips I’ve ever been on, to the state of Chihuahua in Mexico.

Well, Roy and I immediately clicked on many levels, even though you probably couldn’t have found two people in North America with such different backgrounds.

As we travelled throughout one of the least-discovered areas of Mexico, Roy and I engaged in a continuous dialogue; and because we stay in touch through the techno-magic of Skype, that dialogue continues to this day. In our chats, we often explore many of the same issues as we do in this Travelosophy Talks segment.

Since that first encounter in Mexico, during which by the way, he introduced me to Margaritas (a whole other story in itself), Roy and I have travelled together to some very interesting places.

Because it is in his nature to be gregarious and genuine, Roy is the kind of person in the travel and tourism industry who has been there, done that, but never tires of engaging people in dialogue.
