It was a great year in 2008 in Québec celebrating the 400th anniversary. And of course, winter and la belle nature in Québec always make for an unforgettable experience.
And here is some more information about a great anniversary party that was held; and travel tips on the Gaspésie, and the historic town of Gaspé.
The 475th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s arrival in Gaspé
In 2009, the town of Gaspé celebrated the 475th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s arrival in 1534. At that time, Cartier erected a cross here, which earned Gaspé the title of “Birthplace of Canada.” A series of regional activities and events will take place over the course of the entire year.
To commemorate the 475th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s arrival in Gaspé, a special program was offered for the 7th edition of the Grande Traversée. The participating skiers boarded the M/V CTMA Vacancier cruise ship and travelled for five days from Montréal to Gaspé, skiing by day and enjoying the comforts of a double stateroom by night. Ski outings were organized in Québec City, the Chic Choc Mountains, the Chaleur Bay region and Forillon National Park of Canada, among others.
Whether you love cross-country skiing or just our extraordinary winter landscapes, come join in the fun and explore the Gaspésie region during the Grande Traversée de la Gaspésie annual cross-country ski trek.
Let Yourself Be Enchanted by Winter in Gaspésie!
